Class Descriptions (in scheduled order)

Momentum in Jukin’ - One may not travel as much in Jukin’ as they do in ballroomin’, but momentum still plays a part. Ross and Sarah will cover the fundamentals of compression and release, moving a partner's center, and working with passes to get you generating momentum and making your jukin’ styling more dynamic.

Fast Feet - Blues music spans a tremendous range of tempos. Live blues musicians will go from a slow, mournful dirge to a house rocking pace. How do you move when the music jumps over 180+ bpm? Whether partnered a solo, this class looks at ways to change, modify, and explore moving to the higher tempos of blues from the feet up.

Turns and Momentum - Up your Ballroomin’ technique with this class, as Ross and Sarah cover the application of momentum in and out of turns, and how it can be used to make your dance even more dynamic.

Make it Move - Building on the application of turns and momentum in ballroomin’, this class will delve into the ‘traveling’ aspect of ballroomin’ blues. Songs that inspire Ballroomin’ movement have sudden stops, swoops, upwellings of sound and passion. The dance can mirror with surges of movement in the partnership that collapse into stillness. We will look at manipulating our connection to follow these sudden changes comfortably and with style.

Sunday's Level 2 class- How Are We Not Doing Phrasing?
How does phrasing work, and how do we fit our dance to match the phrasing in the music? Sarah and Ross will break down each aspect of a phrase, how those aspects work together, and how to build a full thought within one or two phrases alone.

Every second and fourth Sunday, dancer-favorite Moses Oakland leads the open jam at Famous Dave's.

Who will get on stage this time? Ronn Easton? Lamont Cranston? Davina? Only one way to find out.

The best blues musicians in the city can always be found at the Famous Dave's jam, which means the best dancers in the city aren't far behind. The restaurant reserves the long table next to the bar, to your left when you come in, just for us!

As always, no cover!

There are dancers at Wilebski's every Tuesday, but no Tuesday more than First Tuesday. Wanted to check out Wilebski's Blues Saloon, but been afraid you'll pick the wrong night? First Tuesdays are the answer.

The jam is free, the floor is big, and the music is loud. (No, really, maybe bring earplugs?) Buy a drink, shake it out, and let's do this!
